{"id":933,"date":"2021-01-14T23:07:56","date_gmt":"2021-01-15T09:07:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.christianhomeschoolersofhawaii.org\/?page_id=933"},"modified":"2024-07-13T12:35:57","modified_gmt":"2024-07-13T22:35:57","slug":"quarterly-progress-report","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/mail.christianhomeschoolersofhawaii.org\/index.php\/quarterly-progress-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Quarterly Progress Report?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What do I do when a public school official requests a quarterly report for my homeschooled child?\u00a0 Do I need to submit a report to the school?<\/p>\n<p>Now that\u2019s a good question.\u00a0 The simple answer \u2026 and the correct answer \u2026 is \u201cNo.\u201d\u00a0 According to Hawaii Revised Statutes Chapter 12 Compulsory Attendance Exceptions, Section 8-12-18(b) &#8220;The parent shall submit to the principal an annual report of a child&#8217;s progress&#8230;&#8221;\u00a0 In other words, only an annual report is required.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, that has not stopped school officials from asking parents to submit additional reports. How should you respond?\u00a0 Being with familiar with the Chapter 12 Rule is helpful.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some pointers.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pray to the Lord, seeking His guidance on how to respond.<\/li>\n<li>Consider sending a letter to the school. Begin with a positive statement, e.g.\u00a0 \u201cThank you for your concern.\u201d\u00a0 Let&#8217;s assume the school is genuinely concerned.<\/li>\n<li>Reference Section 8-12-18 which addresses testing and progress reports of homeschooled children.<\/li>\n<li>In your letter, request all correspondence be in writing; this is very important for purposes of documentation on what is said and agreed upon.<\/li>\n<li>Keep a copy of the letter..<\/li>\n<li>Mail your letter &#8220;Certified&#8221; so you know the letter was delivered to the school.
