{"id":1119,"date":"2021-08-26T15:29:00","date_gmt":"2021-08-27T01:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.christianhomeschoolersofhawaii.org\/?page_id=1119"},"modified":"2021-08-26T16:02:44","modified_gmt":"2021-08-27T02:02:44","slug":"almost-ready-organize-and-schedule","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/mail.christianhomeschoolersofhawaii.org\/index.php\/almost-ready-organize-and-schedule\/","title":{"rendered":"Almost Ready \u2013 Organize and Schedule"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><strong>Almost Ready \u2013 Organize and Schedule<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>If you are new to homeschooling, it will not take long for you to realize teaching your children at home means numerous adjustments.\u00a0 There is the need to organize the physical space of the home and figure how to schedule the teaching and the school year.\u00a0 And don\u2019t forget, the kids are now home for lunch!<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Do I need to get a school desk?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>You do not need to replicate the brick and mortar school, but your children will need an area conducive for learning \u2013 quiet with few distractions and yet accessible to you!\u00a0 It\u2019s a homeschool \u2013 so a kitchen or dining room table, a low Japanese table, or even the sofa will work well!<\/p>\n<p>Small and limited spaces are common for Hawaii homes.\u00a0 Nevertheless, it will be helpful to designate an area for daily school work so children know where to find their books and where to return them. \u00a0\u00a0No questions for you mama, if your students know where to find school supplies, reference materials, craft supplies or education toys.\u00a0 Baskets or plastic bins work wonders as do some sturdy bookshelves.\u00a0 Let your motto be, \u201cA place for everything and everything in its place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is not the time to be a hoarder!\u00a0 During the course of the year, you will accumulate quite a bit of school work.\u00a0 You can\u2019t keep it all and you don\u2019t need to keep it all. \u00a0Often times, your homeschool curriculum will determine the type of school work you will keep.\u00a0 \u00a0At the least, determine the \u2018treasures\u201d and find a place to store them \u2013 or take pictures.\u00a0 If you have a high schooler, you will need to maintain good records for high school transcripts.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Do I need to follow the public school calendar?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>One of the beauties of homeschooling is the individualized instruction that you can give each of your children.\u00a0 That same principle applies for scheduling your school year.\u00a0 You do not need to follow the DOE public school year calendar;
